Getting into product reviews is not as hard as you may think. Women listen to the advice of other women. We can relate to each other and marketers recognize this amazing ability.
Sometimes we just cannot come up with words to say in order to pitch a company. You never want to appear too casual or unprofessional. Just like you and I, PR personnel do not have a lot of time. They want to briefly read over your email and make a fast decision. You always want to use correct spelling and punctuation. A badly written pitch can hurt you immediately. If you cannot write the pitch who is to say you can write a review?
Finding companies to pitch is the easy part. If you see an interesting product or service, do a short Google search for PR that represent that company. If your search comes up empty handed, go to the company website and look for media. If you still come up with nothing, send an inquiry to customer service. Often the email will be forwarded to the appropriate department.
When sending a pitch you want to keep the email simple and professional. If there is a name available, address the person you are sending the email to. Next, tell them why you are contacting them and why you are interested in their product. Make it personal but brief. Then, tell them a brief description of what your blog is about. Let them know what you are willing to do for them. Whether it is a review and/or giveaway. Are you celebrating some event, like a birthday, or starting to organize? Let them know. Finally tell them how your review can help them and/or their brand. And, be assumptive. Remember you are essentially selling your services. In a sales environment success comes from being assertive by assuming the sale. Tell them that you are looking forward to hear back from them. I usually don’t include stats until it is requested. I want the company interested in me and my views first.
I have set up a template for pitching your blog for product reviews to PR personnel. Keep in mind this is only a template. Edit it and make it yours. Good luck!
