Pink OtterBox BlackBerry Torch Commuter Series Strength Case

I have already written about the many pink OtterBox cases for iPhones, iPods and iPads. Now I have the chance to review one for the BlackBerry Torch. I won a Blackberry Torch a couple of months ago and gave it to my 17 yr old daughter. I must say, this is one of the Smartphones I wanted to play with.

During CES I passed by the OtterBox booth and saw the entire line of protective cases. You would usually think of a protective case as unattractive, big and bulky. And, yes, some of the OtterBox cases are big and bulky. But the protection is top notch.

The Otterbox Commuter Series Strength Cases are not big and bulky. They are no thicker than any other regular Blackberry Torch cases. Since the Blackberry Torch is so new, and options are limited, this is one of the only cases I would use to protect it.

The OtterBox Blackberry Torch Commuter Series Strength Case has 3 layers of protection. The outside of the pink case is smooth. this makes it easy to slide in and out of pockets. The inner layer is white silicone. The hard pink outer shell does not cover ports or buttons on the Blackberry Torch. Instead, the inner silicone layer covers them and is easy to fold over to gain access to the ports. The OtterBox case also comes with a self-adhering clear screen protector.

Installation of the case is simple. First put the silicon under layer on the Blackberry Torch 9800. Then put the harder plastic shell over it. For the screen, first put on your screen protector, then add the front hard shell cover. It just snaps in place with a tab on the top and a tab on the bottom of the screen.

I asked my daughter about what she liked and disliked about the case. This is what she said:

I dropped the phone on the front of the phone and the top part of the case that surrounds the screen just popped off. Also, sometimes I cannot unlock my screen unless I pull up the white silicone that covers the lock and unlock button. I like the colors of the case and it looks nice.

I checked out the phone. I could not confirm the unlock issue she said she had. I was able to lock and unlock over and over. The front screen cover snaps on and has a tab at the top and bottom. I could see if it was dropped hard the wrong way how the front could pop off. I suggest Otterbox add tabs to the side of the front cover also.
