Location based apps have become very popular. Checking into stores and locations has become a great way to share with your friends places you frequent and have earned users discounts and assorted badges.
Sometimes you don’t want everyone to know where you are at. As a parent you may want to know where your children are, no matter their age. When I was a young tech chick, my mom made me ask to go anywhere before leaving the house. I was not allowed to tell her where I was going, I had to ask permission to go. In many ways times have changed. Parents are working more and more. Our kids are left at home and often venture down the street to their friends houses. As they become older they like to be out of the house as much as possible. Even though they are out and about we as parents always want to know where they are at.
There is an emerging group of private location based apps available. One great example of this service is Moby by Contigo. The Moby app allows you to quickly and easily share your whereabouts with the people you care about the most. It gives you complete control over what you share and who you share it with. This new app is perfect for parents, kids, and mobile workers.
There are some great benefits of using a private location based app such as Moby. You have the ability to privately publish your location only to those you trust because your location is never broadcasted in any way. It is easy to set up your account, add contacts, and begin using. The Moby app is also convenient because it allows you to share with family and friends even if they do not have the app installed on their phone. You can even set a duration for your sharing session so your sharing expired automatically.
I gave this app a whirl on my iPhone. I downloaded it and set my account up in about 2 minutes. Then I had to think about who I wanted to share my information with. My first thoughts were my kids. None of then are allowed to use the internet on their mobile phones except my oldest daughter who is 17 yrs old. However I think she declined my invitation to sign up because she never responded. Typical teenager. Then I connected with my other kids. They each received a text message telling them where I was at after easily checking in on the Moby app. I could check in from home and not have to broadcast all over the internet, something I don’t do on other location based apps that I use.
The Moby by Contigo app is available on the iPhone and on Blackberry. The Android app is coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!
I would add screenshots, but I won’t because they all show personal information that I would rather not share so check out the video of how to use the app.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Moby and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Hi Jessica. Thanks for sharing this info. It’s gonna be another app that I’d install on my iPhone I guess.
