Great Wolf Lodge- Pure Family Time

I recently had the chance to visit Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine Texas. I had not heard of Great Wolf Lodge before, but after browsing the website, I was eager to check it out. I found that there are MANY things to do at Great Wolf Lodge for all ages. With the wacky weather, I think it would be perfect for a spring break family trip. During our visit the main thing that surprised me about Great Wolf Lodge was the staff. They were very friendly. They were not faking it either. I could tell it was true, heartfelt friendliness. I truly felt that the staff loved their jobs. Great Wolf has hired the right people to deal with all the kids and families. Great Wolf Lodge has also stepped in the right direction in trying to make the Lodge environmentally friendly. They have been honored as the first national hotel chain to have all US properties Green Seal-Certified. I noticed recycle bins all over the resort, even in the rooms.

Bear Track Landing

The main attraction of Great Wolf Lodge is Bear Track Landing. This 98000 ft water park has several slides that you would find at an outdoor water park. I think my kids went down all the slides several times during our stay. Before I made it down to the water park, my younger kids actually got my DH, who does not like swimming, to go down a slide. Needless to say, that was the only slide he slid down. I loved that the indoor temperature of Bear Track Landing was kept at 84 degrees. Even though it was less than 60 degrees outside, we were able to play at a water park without freezing our butts off. I also noticed the attentiveness of the lifeguards. They paced back and forth around the swimming areas carefully scanning the water for anyone in trouble. I actually sat and watched one. He never took his eyes off the water and was alert at all times. I have never noticed this from lifeguards anywhere else. We enjoyed the Bear Track Landing for hours. I loved that we could go up to our room or venture around the lodge and re-enter the water park at our convenience.

Towels were plentiful, so we did not need to worry about bringing our own. Seating was abundant. I have been to other water parks where I had to sit in the grass because there was not enough seating available to those not in the water. My DH pretty much played water ball (basket ball in the water) the entire time, he felt safe and secure there. I took the kids to the wave pool and rode the waves trying to flip our intertube.

Northern Lights arcade

Great Wolf Lodge has a large arcade room called Northern Lights. With more than 100 games we easily lost track of time. Leandra who is 12, earned tickets easily and traded them in for trinkets and toys. My DH also played the games too. Men are always big kids at heart.

MagiQuest

Great Wolf Lodge had a sort of scavenger hunt game throughout the entire resort. I thought this was very unique. We first purchased the wand and had it activated, then you went to the first check in location. The game sends you up and down the floors following the instructions from your previous clues. The kids are encouraged to use the stairs to make it up and down the 8 floors. The game keeps the kids occupied for hours on end. MagiQuest was very entertaining to Tevin who is 10 yrs. There tons of kids running around waving their wands at the described locations to get their next clues.

Much More…

There is also GR8-Space which is set up for teens and tweens. They can hang out and surf the internet or play RockBand and other games on the game systems. At night it is like a teen party down there. My kids did not make it to GR8_Space. The Bear Track Landing had them worn out and they were fast asleep by 8pm. The Cub Club is a craft and activity center for younger kids and the Scooops Kid Spa is perfect to make your little girl feel like a princess. We did stop by the Bear Paw Sweets and Eats. I could not believe the snacks.

I felt like I was in Candyland. Huge cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, and candy apples were just a few of the tasty items on display. I can’t forget about story time down by the Grand Clock Tower. The animals tell a story to the young kids before bed time. I loved seeing all the kids sprawled out in the lobby sporting their jammies. At Great Wolf Lodge they have tried to think of everything. We even found Pizza Hut inside however; my kids wanted McDonalds for dinner. But for breakfast the buffet at the Loose Moose was great and had lots of variety. I felt like I was at a buffet in Vegas.

***Disclosure: I had a nights stay for my family, complementary of Great Wolf Lodge. They did not ask me to review the hotel and it was not payment for this post. I like the lodge so I am writing how I feel about that Great Wolf has to offer.

Big sweets, huge waterpark, buffets, crazy games to keep kids entertained… good stuff! That waterpark looks awesome too. I think we will go check it out closer to Christmas, would be fun to go to a waterpark in nonwaterpark weather!
