Safe driving will always be a concern especially to parents of young drivers, or children of elder drivers. Placing and receiving calls on a mobile device distracts all
of us from the task at hand, driving. Since mobile phones became popular there has been an increase of accidents due to individuals paying more attention to their device than the road.
I can not tell you how many times I have been behind someone on the road and it was obvious that they were on their phone. Either they were not paying attention to the road and signs, or not aware of the cars and drivers around them. These drivers stick out like a sore thumb.
I am not saying I am completely innocent because I have placed or answered a call while driving. I am sure that those drivers around me were as irritated with me as I am when I see others on their mobile phones.
An AAA study stated “All forms of cellular phone usage lead to significant increases in the establishment of non-response to highway-traffic situations and increase in time to respond.”
Motorola Mobility strongly supported National Safe Driving Month during the month of July by teaming up with several cities and states to hand out hands free devices. A hands free device allows you to still have a phone call, but keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Many newer model cars have this feature pre-installed.
The Motorola Roadster hands free device that was given out is a Bluetooth device that allows for calls and performs the task of an in-car speaker. Not only does it allow you to have the phone conversation on a hands free speaker, it also allows you to dial and answer the phone by voice commands.
To help wrap up the National Safe Driving Month, Motorola Mobility is still giving a 50% discount for Motorola Roadster hands free devices from the Motorola Mobility Facebook fan page. The offer is extended thru July 17th To sign up for the discount, you just need to take the pledge stating “I will drive responsibility by following Motorola’s Driving Precautions, including using hands-free technology for wireless communications.”
**Disclosure: I received a Motorola Roadster to help promote the National Safe Driving Month from Motorola Mobility.

We are constantly avoiding collisions with people who are talking on their cell phones. It’s scary.
