We had a wonderful trip in our 2010 Tahoe that came courtesy Chevrolet. I posted that Chevrolet sent me a Tahoe to drive for our trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX. We are back home after that long drive. We are all in one piece and the kids did not kill each other. For that matter, I did not kill any of them.
The drive in the Tahoe was great and smooth. I really liked it and so did my DH. As you know we have a 6 person household and we need lots of room. A few years ago I purchased a Chevy Venture van just so the kids could not touch each other in the car. The kids grew out of the van and we sold it, but since then we have always used larger vehicles for our road trips. The Tahoe had enough room for each of the kids to ride comfortably, seating seven.
The features the kids enjoyed the most was the DVD player with wireless headsets. Leandra and Tevin wanted to watch movies while Lakendra and Kevin wanted to listen to their iPods. We were able to set the sound of the XM radio to only the front speakers easily so we did not disturbed the kids. They really like that, since I am old you know, and we listen to “old” music. The kids also loved the rear seat warmers. It warmed their cold butts to a toasty temp. It was not long into the drive north before all the kids were asleep. And there was plenty room for that.
Now let me tell you about the features that I loved on the Tahoe. I loved the seat warmers, dual climate control, tinting side and rear view mirrors, automatic running boards, blind spot indicators, and the rear backing assistance. Oh, don’t let me forget the OnStar and Nav system. In the past I worked for Enterprise Rent A Car and there are not many features on a vehicle that I am not familiar with. However, I found these features as added convenience to my trip. I just love sitting in a warm seat. I get cold very easily and, like the kids, like my butt toasty. With the dual climate control, I was able to stay warm while my DH was able to keep cool. We never agree on the temperature in a car. I hate headlights behind me when I am driving in the dark, with the tinting mirrors, the headlights were dimed and I was not annoyed as much by the bright lights. I really loved the auto running boards. I got all kinds of looks each time we stopped at a gas station or anywhere for that matter. When you opened the door, they unfolded, allowing me to easily step in and out of the Tahoe. I think they were super cool. The rear backing assistance and the blind spot indicators helped make my trip safer by having visuals there to help me know when there was something behind me or on the sides.
The Nav system did not start off as one of my favorite features. I have a portable navigation system that I use in my car. I am very familiar with the way mine works. When I put in the address of our destination on the Tahoe Nav system, it told me the trip would take 8-11 hrs. I know that is not true. The bad thing was that I could not figure out how to turn the thing off. So our whole trip the Nav system lady kept telling us to turn so we could get on the path that was planned out. After arriving to Grapevine, we then used the OnStar call button to find Wal-Mart. Yeah, mom who packs everything forgot Kevins swimming trunks on the sofa, so he had nothing to swim in. So we got back in the Tahoe and called OnStar to find the closest Wal-Mart. The OnStar rep was very nice and helpful. After telling her where I wanted to go she downloaded the directions directly to the Nav system. That was uber cool! We used OnStar for all destinations that we went while we were at Great Wolf Lodge. When leaving to return home, we tried once again to use the Nav system to guide our way. And again, the route was not one that we wanted to take, only this time I was able to easily suspend the directions, so no annoying lady telling us to turn around. About half way home, I figured out what we were doing wrong. There was a setting that was not allowing highways, but it was allowing tolls. I changed the setting and resubmitted our destination, and poof, it gave me our route, the one that was only 5 hrs. I should have found this earlier. The other thing I liked about the Nav system, that my own navigation unit does not have was traffic warnings. My navigation automatically re-routes around traffic situations. The Nav system in the Tahoe asked me if I wanted to take an alternate route because there was traffic ahead. I was also informed by the annoying lady the distance that I should expect to be in traffic on the route I was taking. Pretty neat, huh?
We finally made it back home last night, and had a great time, and great ride. As soon as I was able to figure out the Nav system in the Tahoe.
Disclosure: Chevy sent me a 2010 Tahoe to drive as a courtesy to drive to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine Texas. It was not payment for a review of the vehicle. Neither Chevy or Great Wolf Lodge asked me to write and post anything about the Tahoe or the trip. I am doing so because I genuinely enjoyed the vehicle.

I’ve actually never considered a Tahoe so thanks for the nice review. Sounds like something worth looking into.

I have always liked Chevy. They give you more bang for your buck in terms of features IMO
I better not show this to my husband or he’ll have yet another excuse to beg for a Tahoe.

I love the Equinox, they feel like you are driving a car. Not too small, not too big.
just wondering how u got this to try, and i glad u had a great time,
Chevy contacted me and asked me if I wanted to take the Tahoe on my trip. I truly thank them for the opportunity.
I’ve driven a Tahoe as a rental car before and it was great. It’s too big for what we need as an every day car, but it definitely was fun to drive and would be great for a vacation!
